Work crews painted foxes and snowflakes in the intersection of 100 South and Rio Grande Street at the Gateway on Wednesday. The winter-themed crosswalk was designed by local artist Alli Vankleek.

“I was very excited to have the opportunity to work with The Gateway on their winter crosswalk design. They always do such a wonderful job lighting up downtown throughout the holidays, so we decided to create something a bit brighter and bolder to match," Vankleek said in a statement.

“My illustrations often have an organic, hand-drawn touch to them, and lately I’ve been inspired by folk art and the flora and fauna represented in it. The end result is a type of ‘electric forest’ featuring two arctic foxes among the pine trees and snowflakes,” he said. "The design ties in perfectly with the geometric animal sculptures and light displays that can be found throughout The Gateway Mall during winter time. I hope the design brightens up your day on these cold days ahead of us!”
