A man was injured at a South Jordan house that was the scene of a July standoff that resulted in the owner’s arrest for allegedly stockpiling explosives.
Ryan Lynn McManigal was charged in July with attempted murder and felony use of a weapon of mass destruction. Officers reportedly found 20 pounds of explosives in the home. His home has been boarded-up since his arrest, according to South Jordan Fire Department Deputy Chief Ryan Lessner.
Lessner said firefighters were called to McManigal’s home at 4 p.m. this afternoon for reports of a structure fire. They didn’t find a fire, but did find a man with significant injuries to his lower legs, Lessner said. The injured man was transported to University of Utah Hospital. Lessner said he didn’t know who the man was or why he was in the house.
The two houses adjacent to McManigal’s house were evacuated and a bomb squad was brought to the scene. Lessner said police and the bomb squad are investigating how the man found at the house was injured and making sure nothing in the house poses a future threat. Lessner said he is not concerned about danger to residents. However, officials will remain on scene throughout the night, he said.
