Firefighters gain on blazes that closed Utah roads https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

A fire briefly closed U.S. Highway 40 in eastern Utah on Sunday, but Monday firefighters came close to containing the blaze.

What’s been dubbed the 6400 Fire was 75% contained Monday, according to a tweet from Utah’s wildfire managers. The blaze was 225 acres.

Humans sparked the fire about noon Sunday southeast of Fruitland, according to a news release from the Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, though investigators are trying to determine who and how. The division gave credit to the Fruitland’s fire department for mitigating the destruction as the blaze burned along Highway 40, but the fire destroyed one home, three other buildings and a trailer.

Also Sunday, an evacuation was lifted for people living in a neighborhood along Interstate 80 near Mount Aire east of Salt Lake City.

They had been evacuated since Thursday night due to the Parleys Fire. The fire also closed I-80 Thursday night and much of Friday.

On Monday, the Parleys Fire was listed at 80 acres and 90% contained. Investigators suspect a dump truck dragging a chain ignited the blaze.
