A fire that broke out at Parleys Canyon has forced a mandatory evacuation of the Mount Aire area, per the United Fire Authority.
The department wrote on Twitter that structures are threatened and residents are advised to leave “immediately.” Mount Aire is located near Salt Lake City and offers various types of outdoor recreation.

Residents evacuated due to the fire can go to Skyline High School, 3251 E. 3760 South in Salt Lake City, per the Unified Fire Authority, which added that the Red Cross estimated the evacuation center will be operational at 7:45 p.m.
The fire is reportedly at 40 acres and growing, and the cause is unknown. Interstate 80 is closed to eastbound traffic at the mouth of the canyon.
